Cindy Mitchell has focused on civil litigation exclusively for the past twenty-one years. She has extensive experience in complex civil litigation in federal and state courts and has represented clients in a wide variety of cases. Her practice emphasizes complex commercial litigation, class action litigation, insurance coverage, employment, business torts and contracts, and other corporate litigation.
Cindy is an experienced class action litigator and has successfully defended lawsuits in both federal and state courts throughout the United States. In the rare situation, Cindy will represent a plaintiff class. For instance, she represented a class of investors in a fund-of-funds against the security issuer. Cindy has also reached early resolution of class actions, including structuring favorable settlements.
Cindy also has substantial experience litigating complex business disputes, including breach of contract and business tort cases, real estate disputes, and civil fraud litigation. She has also represented both plaintiffs and defendants in employment-related lawsuits, including breach of employment agreements, wage claims, and many other employment related claims, such as legal rights relating to unfair business practices. Prior to joining SGS, Cindy practiced as a litigation associate and partner at the law firm of Hogan & Hartson LLP for ten years.
Cindy received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, cum laude, in 1992, where she was an editor for Law and Policy in International Business. Cindy graduated from American University, cum laude, in 1989.
